gamescom latam was a blast. However, one week of discussions with game developers from Latin America and around the globe spotlighted the weaknesses of the European digital trade promotion policy. First of all, the Chinese and Indians were visible at the event, but the EU was missing. The trade consulates of EU countries still see each other as their main competitors, but our main competitors are non-EU giants like the USA, China, and India. Only by collaborating, finding synergies, and pooling resources will the EU member states be able to challenge the global visibility of American, Chinese, and Indian trade promotion activities. Secondly, we might be too focused on talent attraction and outsourcing opportunities. Do not get me wrong; both are critical topics for the growth of the European game industry, and we must continue working with them. However, we should not be blinded by those goals. Brazilian game dev studios are rapidly expanding, and the largest of them are already starting to open their local studios in the EU. It is time to broaden our focus and begin promoting the EU more as an investment location and an ideal sport for co-productions. Thirdly, the EU parades itself as the forerunner and trendsetter of digital regulation. As Brazilian efforts to build a GDPR-adequate privacy policy framework and their plans to regulate gatekeeper platforms demonstrate, Brussels's effect is true. However, if the EU does not take a more active role in aligning digital policies inspired by it, we will face a significant risk of deepening global regulatory market fragmentation. It is clear that trade agreements are not an instrument that is agile enough to address this challenge. Instead, the EU should focus on building joint guidelines with third countries on how to align regulatory requirements. In practice, we need joint guidelines between, for example, European and Brazilian data protection authorities addressing the potential conflicts between the EU and Brazilian data protection frameworks. In a not-so-humble brag, Esports World Cup Foundation announced life-changing prize money of $60.000.000 for their upcoming tournaments. Let's break down why that is awesome: 1️⃣ The sheer scale and new concept A tournament of this scale has never been done before. We have had and continue to have amazing experiences filling arenas around the world, usually at an extended weekend of fun featuring one specific game. The Esports World Cup however, features nothing less than 19 different games across a 2-month period, and has a whole festival area attached to the event. That's massive. 2️⃣ The money distribution $60.000.000 is a huge amount of money, but the way it's being distributed is what truly sets it apart. For reference, the largest prizepool ever in esports so far has been DoTA2's The International in 2021, sporting a whopping $40.000.000. It was split between 18 clubs and 90 players, with the winners taking home $18M. The EWC are splitting theirs up differently. $20M pool goes to a world-first club specific ranking, rewarding the best teams across all categories. $30M is for the individual 19 different tournaments, usually split between teams and players depending on the individual players club contracts. $7.6M is earmarked for the qualifying phase even before the EWC starts and $1.1M is for handing out MVP awards of every tournament. Not all details are out yet, but assuming an average of 16 teams per competition with 4 players each this potentially rewards 304 clubs and 1216 players. Most bigger clubs have multiple teams so a realistic number of how many clubs get rewarded here is probably closer to half, but it will still be vividly higher than the 18 teams The International rewarded. Now THAT is a commitment to growing the esports ecosystem. 3️⃣ The long term commitment and foundation setup The ambition has been communicated clear from the start. The EWC is set up as a foundation, to consistently grow this over the next years leading into their 2030 vision. That means that it's definitely not just a one-off, and it also means that it doesn't currently run for commercial profit like the vast majority of tournaments. Sure, the structure and investment thesis might change later on, and sure it's wild having that amount of money available to invest. Regardless, it's a massive win for esports, and they are truly committed to pushing the global ecosystem forward. All in all, it's an incredible milestone for esports as a whole. The big question for many has been whether EWC will replace existing tournaments and take over the whole thing. My view? Hell no, and I wouldn't imagine they were trying to. The year is long. If anything, change like this opens up and widens the ecosystem as a whole, and leaves ample opportunity for people to build new exciting concepts in and around the momentum. Biased maybe, but Fnatic have created the best app in sports. Today was a great day. One of our founders got their first check from a professional investor. When Begoña Fernández-Cid and I met with this founder, he shared with us he had decided to stop fundraising, and ditched reaching out to professional investors. We started working together and did several things, some of them being: Reworked the pitch. Built the whole company story from the ground up. Framed the fundrasing strategy. Started to build warm intros through EasyVC. After years bearing a sentiment of frustration and hopelessness, he got into the right circles and closed an investment with a renown investor. Now they're starting to build up momentum and climbing up the funding round. The best thing? Knowing he always was a great founder. We didn't change who he was. We didn't change his company. We helped him framing his fundraising process and dug deep into his ambitions to build a unique story that will encourage others to jump onboard. And now he is one step closer to build his dreams and bring the necessary people around him to close the funding round. This is why we decided to build EasyVC. What an incredible year for Gaming here in Red Bull Chile! From Red Bull SOLO Q, which attracted +1400 online participant and more than 300 attendees for the national finals, to the first-ever Red Bull Home Ground in Chile and the region, with over 200 teams participating. We even extended a Wildcard to Argentina to bring in more teams, culminating in an unforgettable on site national final that gathered over 200 fans! But that’s not all! This year, we’ve been filling the calendar with experiences, bringing the world of Red Bull Gaming closer to people. We took our Red Bull Gaming Sphere On Tour trailer nationwide, offering play zones across the country, and expanded Red Bull Gaming Ground by activating it at Movistar GameClub, Chile's most important gaming center. This enabled various communities to enjoy tournaments for games like Street Fighter, Age of Empires, and EA SPORTS FC. We also created a much more casual approach at Comic Con Chile, where we were able to execute a holistic plan involving all areas of Red Bull, working closely with On Premise during the 3 days of the event! Hundreds of fans were able to enjoy F1 simulators, arcades, a Just Dance stage, and much more! And it doesn’t stop there! Through our global partnership with Riot Games, we activated major fan moments like the Watch Party for WORLDS 24, where over 400 fans gathered to cheer on their favorite teams (of course, T1 😉). To close the year with Riot Games, we took part in the Watch Party for the final act of Arcane, creating an incredible experience despite the tough timing due to the time difference (showing that fandom in Chile is bigger, super loyal! They truly gave it their all!) In addition to a Digital Consumer Activation related to ARCANE, which consisted of a quiz focused on the series' first season! The winner will soon travel to Red Bull League Of Its Own in Paris! 😍 Although these have been the major milestones, the year is not over, and we continue to activate various Community Events throughout December! 🥰 The gaming ecosystem is always evolving, but communities and content creators remain the heart of it all. There are hundreds, if not thousands of digital card games available. What are they and what’s the player motivation behind these games? Let’s take a quick look to TCG & CCG games. The history of collectible card games goes all the way back to early 90s. In his book, ‘’Game Design Deep Dive: Trading and Collectible Card Games’’ Published by CRC Press, Josh Bycer covers many aspects. He says back in 1991, ‘’Magic: The Gathering’’ by Richard Garfield is recognized as the one that started it all. Since then, these games changed forms, Expanded their card base, Tweaked their gameplays, Yet, they've retained their core gameplay essence. Here is ‘’my’’ best online card games that you should be aware of: ↳ Magic: The Gathering ↳ Hearthstone ↳ Pokemon ↳ Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel ↳ Marvel Snap And here is notable games; Didn't scale but worth checking: ↳ Legends of Runeterra ↳ Gwent: The Witcher Card Game ↳ The Elder Scrolls: Legends ↳ Slay the Spire And there is hundreds of more I couldn’t mention here, But they are played by many.
